Felixstowe II v St Osyth

St Osyth won by 8 wickets

An excellent unbeaten century partnership from Sam and Alex Hennessy saw St Osyth register a much-needed win against Felixstowe II in one of the few matches to be completed due to Saturday’s appalling weather conditions.

The match was reduced to 35 overs-a-side as a result of the morning rain, and St Osyth put hosts Felixstowe in to bat. Mark Parker and Danny Bennett got Felixstowe off to a confident start with 82 in 17 overs before heavy rain intervened and tea was taken early.  Resuming an hour later, these two continued to bat positively with Parker going on to make 73 before both he and Bennett were dismissed by James Handscombe with the score at 125.  St Osyth fought back in the final overs of the innings and although Matt Lawrenson scored 42 not out, Scott Fraser collected 4 wickets as Felixstowe closed on 190-6.

The St Osyth reply started in incredibly dark and apocalyptic conditions with rain in the vicinity. Amazingly, the rain seemed to bypass the ground, and after losing an early wicket, Sam Hennessy and Scott Fraser added 58 for the 2nd wicket before Fraser went for 20. Sam was then joined by brother Alex and they batted sensibly and with great application, gradually pushing the scoring rate along.

With 72 needed off 11 overs, they launched an onslaught with impressive shots for four. Both passed fifty, and got the score down to needing 6 off 3 overs. Sam hit a fine straight drive for six to finish the match on 92 not out with Alex undefeated on 64 as their stand realised 129. This win has moved St Osyth up to fifth and out of the relegation zone.
