Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division 7

St Osyth v West Mersea

West Mersea won by 116 runs

St Osyth experienced their first defeat of the season at home to West Mersea in Two Counties Division 7.

West Mersea elected to bat, and although Scott Fraser and Ross Evans both bowled useful opening spells for the hosts, thereafter the Islanders gained the upper hand. Middle order batsmen James Rumble, Luke Bruce and Matt White played some punishing strokes which drastically increased the run rate. White crashed 5 sixes losing a number of balls in the Cowley Park fields in making 49, whilst Bruce batted through to the close finishing with 69 not out as Mersea totalled 265-6. Towards the end of the innings, St Osyth captain Sean Hennessy had the misfortune to suffer a nasty knee injury and played no further part in the match.

St Osyth found it difficult to take up the challenge, and soon slipped to 59-5. Only a determined innings from Nick Shuttleworth spared his side from being dismissed cheaply. He batted through most of the innings playing a number of attractive shots before being last man out for 76 as St Osyth finished on 149.

St Osyth are sponsored this season by GCS Alarms.
