Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division C

Frinton v St Osyth

St Osyth won by 39 runs

A remarkable 8-wicket bowling performance from 13-year old Harry Nightingale inspired St Osyth to a 39- run win in an entertaining Division C fixture at Frinton.

St Osyth batted first and were given a promising start by James Handscombe and Nick De’ath.

Handscombe notched up his second fifty of the weekend whilst De’ath played a fine knock of 39 in an opening stand of 92. Joe Bowman then took 4 quick wickets for Frinton, before the innings was put back on course by Sam and Sean Hennessy. They added 82 in 12 overs, both playing attractive shots, before Sam was out for 37. Brother Sean progressed to 78 as Toosey concluded their innings on 239-9.

Hosts Frinton batted positively in reply with Pat Patel and Dominic Stockdale scoring 73 in 15 overs.

before Stockdale, on 29, picked out James Handscombe in the deep to become Harry Nightingale’s first victim.  Patel went on to make 54, and with James Walker playing well for 56, Frinton stayed in contention. However, Nightingale’s leg-spin eventually teased out the rest of the Frinton line-up as he bowled a 15-over spell to become one of the few St Osyth bowlers to take  8 wickets in an innings. When the innings finally closed on 200-9, he had returned an incredible 8-47.
